Fish fry is something that seafood lovers cannot resist. My case is no different, though I go for fish curries often. This fry was made on one of those days,I had a long chat with amma where she mentioned they were having meen masalayittu varuthathu (masala fish fry) for dinner. I didn’t think twice, the very next day I made this masala fish fry. I must say, tilapia is best to use with this marinade, I had tried the same with salmon and tuna and they didn’t turn out as tasty. So friends hope you all will like this fish fry as much as us…
Tilapia fillets 2 medium
Ginger a small piece
Garlic 2 pods
Curry leaves 1 sprig
Red chilly powder 1 heaping tsp
Turmeric powder ½ tsp
Black pepper powder ¼ tsp
Garam masala ½ tsp
Fennel seeds ½ tsp
Lime juice 2 tsp
Salt as needed
Coconut oil/any oil 1 TBSP
Preparation
Pulse together ginger, garlic, curry leaves, red chilly powder, turmeric powder, pepper powder, garam masala, fennel seeds, salt and lime juice in a blender.
Clean and dry the fish fillets using a paper towel and rub the marinade onto both sides of the fillets well and set aside for about 15-20 minutes.
Heat oil in a frying pan and shallow fry the fillets until both sides are browned (takes about 3-4 minutes on each side). Drain excess oil onto a paper towel. Be careful while flipping the fillets as it can break easily. Enjoy with rice.
Notes: If you like the fish fry a little tangy add about 1/2 tsp tamarind paste along with the marinade ..
Cheers!!!
