Veggie Keema (Serves 4)

Veggie Keema

This is another unique dish for those who crave the benefits of “vegetarianism” without giving up the addictive taste of meat. This dish uses the pure vegetarian “Veggie crumbles” (seasoned-precooked soya crumbles) and has qualities quite similar to its non-veg counter part. Also it supplies your ration of protein in a much much healthier form…

Morning star’s meal starter veggie crumbles 1 pkt (12 oz) equivalent to 1 lb ground beef
Red onions 1 med, finely chopped
Tomato 2 medium, pureed
Green peas ½ cup, cooked
Ginger 1 TBSP, finely chopped
Garlic 1 TBSP, finely chopped
Green chilly 2 tsp, finely chopped
Red chilly powder 1 tsp
Coriander powder 2 tsp
Cumin powder ¼ tsp
Garam masala ½ tsp
Salt as needed
Oil 1 TBSP

Veggie Keema

Preparation

Microwave the Meal starter veggie crumbles for 2-3 minutes. Keep aside.

Using a food processor, finely chop the red onions. Set aside.

Heat oil in a wide mouth pan at medium heat. Add the onions and cook for 15 minutes, stirring in between. Follow up with ginger, garlic and green chilly. Mix well and cook for another 5 minutes or until the onions are completely cooked and attained a paste consistency. Now add the pureed tomatoes and cook closed for 10-15 more minutes or until oil separates. Open lid and add all the powders except garam masala. Mix well and cook until the raw smell is completely gone. Now add the veggie crumbles and incorporate well. Cook for 5 more minutes. Add the green peas, garam masala, and salt. Combine well and switch off the flame. Serve hot with rotis or naan..

Veggie Keema
Notes: Veggie crumbles is pre-cooked seasoned soya granules easily available in the frozen section the grocery shops in US.
If you wish to use the regular soya granules, just cook that up with some salt and pepper powder in boiling water for 5-10 minutes. Drain and squeeze out most of the water. Using a food processor, chop them finely and use in the above recipe.
