Muthira/horse gram 1 cup
Onion 1 small, chopped
Green chilly 2 nos, slit lengthwise
Garlic 2 pods, chopped
Ginger 1 inch piece, chopped
Turmeric powder ¼ tsp
Mustard seeds ¼ tsp
Salt to season
Oil 1 TBSP
Cilantro to garnish
Preparation
Wash and pressure cook the muthira/horse gram with 4 cups of water for 5 whistles.
In a deep bottomed pan, add oil and splutter mustard seeds. Add garlic, ginger and sauté for 2 minutes. Add chopped onions, green chillies, turmeric powder and salt. Mix well and sauté till onions are golden brown in color. Now add the cooked muthira/horse gram with water if any or else add ¼ cup water. Cook for 10 more minutes and garnish with cilantro. Serve with roti, rice or porridge.
