Chicken puffs (Makes 6-9)

Chicken puffs

Chicken puffs and lime juice…ohhh that was a major life saver for me when I was in college. The boring food at the hostel was compensated by this yummy combo at tea time from balettan’s bakery near my college. Today’s post is dedicated to all my college friends and hope you will enjoy it too….

Puff pastry sheets 1 no, I used Pepperidge farm’s
*Cooked and minced chicken 1 cup, packed
Red onion, finely chopped 1 small
Minced ginger 1 tsp
Minced garlic ½ tsp
Green chilly, finely chopped 1 tsp
Curry leaves, finely chopped ½ TBSP
Pepper powder ½ tsp
Any kind of meat or chicken masala 1 TBSP (I used Eastern brand meat masala)
Alternately you can add, 1 tsp each of red chilly powder, coriander powder, ½ tsp pepper powder and ½ tsp garam masala
Soya sauce 1-2 tsp
Water 2 tsp
Oil 1-2 tsp
Salt as needed

Chicken puffs

Preparation

*Cook boneless chicken with salt, ½ tsp pepper half of ginger, garlic and green chilly in a pan with little water. Allow to cool and mince using a blender. Alternately you can pressure cook the chicken for 2 whistles.

In a pan, heat 2 tsp oil and sauté onions and add salt. Add rest of ginger, garlic and green chilly and sauté for 3 more minutes. Add curry leaves and mix well. Reduce flame and add the meat masala or the powders if you are using the same. Saute for 5 minutes and add the soya sauce and water. Mix well and add the minced chicken. Mix well and cook for 3 more minutes. Remove from flame and allow to cool.

Preheat oven to 425 F.

Thaw the puff pastry sheets as per the instructions on the package. I have used Pepperidge farm’s readymade puff pastry. Each has 2 sheets and you can make 9 small puffs or 6 medium size puffs per sheet (depending on your choice).

Cut the pastry sheet into small equal square shape. Fill 1 TBSP of the chicken filling to one end of the square, leaving space to fold and seal. Now fold the other end over and seal using a fork. Repeat for all the square sheets and arrange the prepared puffs onto aluminum foil lined baking sheet. Bake for 15 - 20 minutes or until the puffs turns golden brown on top. Enjoy!!!
